The SBU Arrested a Resident of Kherson Who Blamed America for the Coronavirus Outbreak Online

The Security Service of Ukraine arrested a resident of the Kherson region who wrote on social networks that the coronavirus is a “biological weapon” of the United States that went out of control.

The detention was reported by the press service of the SBU.

“In the Kherson region, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed more Internet propagandist who spread fakes about COVID-19, contributed to the destabilisation of the social situation in the region, and increased panic among the population. According to the investigation, the resident Berislav administered several communities with a total number of almost 100,000 followers on one of the prohibited social networks,” reads the message.

According to the SBU, the woman “maintains contact with L/DPR fighters and coordinates her activities with the administrators of other separatist groups.”

“In the groups she periodically posted calls to overthrow the constitutional order and promoted the idea of creating the so-called Novorossiya. After the introduction of restrictive measures by the government due to the epidemiological situation in the country, the propagandist adopted a new ‘trend’ and started to spread online fakes about coronavirus,” writes the SBU.

The SBU showed a screenshot (seen below) of one of the woman’s posts. In it, she assured that coronavirus was a “biological weapon” of the United States that went out of control.

The Ministry reports that in the framework of previously opened criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 110 (infringement of the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, law enforcement officers carried out searches at her place of residence. At home, law enforcement officers found computer and mobile equipment with materials that prove illegal activities. The issue of reporting suspicion is now being resolved. The pretrial investigation proceeds.
