During the month of July Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) specialists detained 11 administrators of groups on the social networks “Odnoklassniki” and “VKontakte”, who were subsequently charged with terrorism, attempts to violently overthrow the constitutional system, and infringing on the territorial integrity of the country for the distribution of “anti-Ukrainian materials”. This was reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the department.
The SBU is convinced that the detainees committed the said actions in accordance with instructions from Russia and also earned a reward for it. The staff of the department carried out searches at their homes and confiscated computers and phones.
“The actions of the malefactors are qualified under Article 109 (‘Actions aimed at forceful change or overthrow of the constitutional order or take-over of government’), Article 110 (‘Trespass against territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine’), and Article 258 (“Creation of a terrorist group or terrorist organisation”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” specified the press service.
As a reminder, in the spring of 2017 Ukraine declared the imposition of sanctions on a number of Russian Internet websites under the pretext of protecting national interests. A number of media and IT companies, including “Yandex” and all its services, the “Mail.ru” Group, and the social networks of VKontakte and “Odnoklassniki”, and also other Russian TV channels and developers of anti-virus programs, were included on the list.
