The Ukrainian director Sergey Loznitsa won a prize for best director [Prix de la mise-en-scène – ed] in the “Un Certain Regard” section – the second most important one at the Cannes Film Festival – for the movie Donbass.

Donbass is a pseudo-documentary that [apparently – ed] describes the different aspects of life in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s republics. The movie opened the program this year.

The “Un Certain Regard” section was founded in Cannes in 1976. It selects “unusual and courageous” movies, often by debutant directors, with an emphasis on international projects.
