After the announcement of the election results in Belarus, the administration of President Aleksandr Lukashenko requested a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart “with a hint of official congratulations on the victory”, but “western partners” forbade this, reported AP news news agency, citing a source in the Office of the President of Ukraine on August 11th.
“After the CEC of Belarus announced the results of the election in Belarus, the administration of President Lukashenko requested a telephone conversation with Zelensky, with a hint of official congratulations on the victory. However, western partners asked Ermak not to rush this process yet,” reported the agency, quoting a source in the Office.
According to him, due to the silence of the Ukrainian side, Minsk is delaying negotiations on the issue of extradition to Kiev of some of the Russians detained in Belarus, whom Lukashenko calls representatives of the “Wagner PMC”, former citizens of Ukraine.
“It is very likely that our country will be used as an irritating factor for Russia during the unstable situation and protests in Belarus,” the source added.
