Thousands of Orthodox Christians Stopped the Provocation of “Right Sector” at a Canonical Temple in Vinnytsia

In Vinnytsia on January 6th the parishioners of the Kresto-Vozdvizhensky temple disrupted the earlier announced rally of “Right Sector”, which the Ukrainian Orthodox Church [Moscow Patriarchate – ed] called a provocation. This was reported by the “Union of Orthodox Journalists”.

It was reported that about 20 supporters of “Right Sector” came to the “Switch to the OCU rally. At the same time, several thousands of Orthodox Christians rose in defence of the Kresto-Vozdvizhensky temple. According to the “Union of Orthodox Journalists”, they encircled the radicals and “prevented provocative actions”.

The nationalists agitated the audience in support of the OCU, archbishop Varsonofy of Vinnytsia and Bar, in turn, said that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church [Moscow Patriarchate – ed] has independent status and is Ukrainian, but not “Russian”, as the radicals say. In addition, he invited the activists to tea and promised to answer all their questions.

In addition, a prayer for peace in Ukraine took place at the nativity scene. Despite the invitation of the archbishop to take part in it, the nationalists refused and said that they will pray somewhere else.
