The idea of creating a “parliamentary mission” from among the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, voiced by the leader of the political party “Batkivshchyna” Yuliya Tymoshenko, actually belongs to the head of the political council of the “Opposition Platform – For Life“ party Viktor Medvedchuk. This was stated to the Federal News Agency by former deputy of the Rada Oleg Tsarev.
According to Tymoshenko’s initiative, Ukrainian parliamentarians would take part in all international negotiations to resolve the situation in Donbass.
“I appeal to all the leaders of the factions, the parliament, all the people’s deputies who have experience, who are competent in international diplomatic affairs, to create a special parliamentary mission, authoritative, professional,” said the head of “Batkivshchyna”.
According to the politician, the tasks of this mission will include “the most active participation in all international negotiations” regarding the return of peace and territories to Ukraine. Tymoshenko reminded the leaders of parliamentary factions that the Verkhovna Rada has “a significant function and responsibility in managing the life of the country”. Since the parliament has been sidelined from negotiations for many years, in her opinion, it “left it to each successive president”.
Former deputy of the Rada Oleg Tsarev, in an interview with the FAN, admitted that he evaluates this idea positively.
“This is actually the initiative of Viktor Medvedchuk, who has a long-standing relationship with Yuliya Tymoshenko. She probably came up with the idea at his request. Viktor Medvedchuk has strengthened his position and is very actively engaged in the problem of Donbass,” said Tsarev.
But if this initiative was actively lobbied by Viktor Medvedchuk, it would have been treated with caution in the Verkhovna Rada, the politician claims.
“However, it turns out that it was proposed by one of the leaders of a faction that has never been seen having close relations with Russia. There is every chance that the proposal will be supported by other deputies, and it will find support in the administration of the President of Ukraine. Then the initiative will be implemented,” he said, expressing hope.
As Tsarev notes, there are a lot of “freaks” from Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group on the settlement of the situation in Donbass. Therefore, it is necessary to create another body that will include people’s deputies. He also emphasises that it is desirable to include parliamentarians from countries that are part of the negotiating group — France, Germany, and Russia.
“Then they will know the situation in Donbass better. German and French deputies will be able to influence the leaders of their countries. Then the policy will be more coherent and will help restore peace in Donbass,” explains the former Ukrainian parliamentarian. “But, no doubt, Petro Poroshenko delegates some idiots there. Along with them, there will be deputies from opposition parties. In any parliamentary group, the main work is done by two or three deputies who are interested in it,” added the interlocutor.
Earlier, Yuliya Tymoshenko called the election of the current government a “tragic mistake” of Ukrainian citizens. According to Tymoshenko, now there is an opportunity to correct the error indicated by her, since this year Ukraine will hold regional elections.
