Colonel of the Armed forces of Ukraine (UAF), commander of the operations and tactical group “Mariupol” Eduard Moskalev stated that the inhabitants of controlled by Kiev areas of Donbass hate the Ukrainian Armed Forces. On Monday, November 7th, he said this in an interview to the website “online.ua”.

“There were instances when, for example, we came into Debaltsevo, and the people greeted us very negatively. You know, I have never seen such a look of hatred in my entire life. When they look at you – the hatred in their eyes penetrates you,” said Moskalev.

He added that the residents of Donbass often passed on information about the movements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to the militia, making it difficult for them to conduct combat operations.

On the 29th of August, the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Viktoria Sumar offered to hold a nationwide referendum on the future of Donbass. According to her, the region’s population hates Ukraine, therefore Kiev in the next five years will definitely not be able to restore its control over the lost territories.

In June the Minister of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine Vadym Chernysh acknowledged the reluctance of the residents of Donbass to return to the structure of Ukraine. According to him, even with the establishment of the control of Kiev over the border with Russia, the population does not recognize the Ukrainian authorities.

The armed conflict in Donbass began in the spring of 2014 after Kiev’s attempts to suppress the demonstrations in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions caused by the change of power in the country.
