Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs Arson Avakov 10 Years Ago: “Respect For The Soviet Generation Is In Our Genes”

Translated by Ollie Richardson & Angelina Siard

After the social network flashmob carried out by police officers with the recognition “I am Bandera”, a no less curious video was found floating around on the Internet. In the published video the current Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov participates in flower-laying at the monument to the perished soldiers of the Great Patriotic War and says that he belongs to the Soviet generation, and that his respect for May 9th is in his genes.

“All of us went to kindergarten and studied at a Soviet school, or at least our generation did, therefore respect for this holiday has been cultivated in our genes, and this respect will never disappear anywhere”

said Arsen Avakov, who at that time held the post of the governor of the Kharkov region

As a reminder, police officers started a flashmob “I am Bandera” as an apology for the words of their colleague, who while detaining nationalists near the Podolsky district police department of Kiev shouted at one of them: “Lay down, Bandera!”.
