By 240 votes people’s deputies voted for law No. 5309, which obliges the [canonical – ed] Ukrainian Orthodox Church to change its name.
On December 20th the Verkhovna Rada adopted anti-church draft law No. 5309, which obliges the [canonical – ed] Ukrainian Orthodox Church to change its name as a Church “whose center of control is in the aggressor country” and to thus become the “Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine”. The draft law was voted for by 240 deputies, 31 voted against it, and 1 people’s deputy abstained.
The speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy reported that the draft law was submitted for vote “at the request of the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate Filaret“, and hoped that he “will be supported by all the Ukrainian parliament, all Ukrainians and patriots who are in this parliament, <…> all of us will support the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Patriarch Filaret today”.
“We always acted in support of freedom of worship, but a Church whose spiritual center is in the aggressor state must bear the name of that country where its center is. This decision is wider than the religious context”stressed the head of the Ukrainian parliament
Draft law No. 5309 suggests to introduce in the Law of Ukraine “On freedom of worship and religious organisations” an amendment “concerning the name of religious organisations (associations) that are included in the structure (are part of) of a religious organisation (association) whose leading center (management) is outside of Ukraine, in a state that, according to the Law of Ukraine, is recognised as being militarily aggressive towards Ukraine and/or temporarily occupying a part of the territory of Ukraine”.
Earlier the main scientific-expert department of the Verkhovna Rada recognised that draft law No. 5309 frankly contradicts the Constitution and recommended to reject it in connection with the discrepancy between those purposes that were declared by the authors of the draft law.
Igor Mosiychuk, the people’s deputy from the “Radical Party” led by Lyashko, urged colleagues to vote for draft law 5309, which stipulates renaming the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which he called the “Russian world”: “Regardless of how much the Russian world whines, we have to adopt this draft law”.
Mosiychuk urged deputies to vote “for the death of the Russian world”: “Now is the moment of truth. The future of the state depends on the vote of each deputy. The Orthodox Church in Ukraine will be united. Regardless of how much the Russian world whines. Everyone must know that pressing the green button [voting yes – ed] opens fire at the Russian World. Death to the Russian world”!
I.e. he actually called for murder of millions of citizens of Ukraine who are believers of the [canonical – ed] Ukrainian Orthodox Church
Even Hitler didn’t think of doing such a thing, having signed the Reichskonkordat.
