Translated by Ollie Richardson & Angelina Siard

In the Verkhovna Rada a draft resolution based on the appeal to the president of Ukraine concerning the assignment of the title of “Hero of Ukraine” to Stepan Bandera (posthumously) was registered.

According to the information on the Rada’s website, the initiators of the draft resolution (No. 9368) are the People’s Deputies Maksim Burbak (“People’s Front” faction), Yaroslav and Bogdan Dubnevich (“Bloc of Petro Poroshenko” faction), Andrey Kot (“Bloc of Petro Poroshenko” fraction), Mikhail Bondar (“People’s Front” faction), Yury Mamchur (“Bloc of Petro Poroshenko” faction), Mikhail Gavrilyuk (“People’s Front” faction), and others.

The text of the draft bill hasn’t yet been published on the website of the parliament.

As a reminder, on January 22nd 2010 the president Viktor Yushchenko awarded the rank of “Hero of Ukraine” to Stepan Andreyevich Bandera via a decree. But on April 2nd 2010 the Donetsk district administrative court deprived Bandera of the rank of “Hero of Ukraine” on the grounds that he was not a citizen of Ukraine. In August 2011 the Supreme Administrative Court of Ukraine (SACU) upheld the decision of the Donetsk district administrative court.
