In the education system of Ukraine there is a catastrophe, which was caused by the systemic failures of the leadership of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. Such an opinion was expressed by the co-chairman of the “Opposition Bloc” faction Aleksandr Vilkul on the eve of Knowledge Day.
“Tomorrow is September 1st. Frankly speaking, taking into account the catastrophic situation in education, on this day the core minister must be dismissed,” stressed Vilkul.
In particular, he reminded that nearly 1,400 schools have been closed in four years (from 17,600 to 16,2000), and at the same time 14,000 teachers have been laid off.
Now teachers block roads because of the non-payments of salaries. According to Vilkul, there won’t be enough money in the budget to pay the salaries of teachers up to the end of the year.
In addition, the 5th and 10th classes were left without textbooks. Only the 1st class are completely provided with textbooks.
The quality of education at the same time has sharply decreased, since almost twofold more graduates have failed external independent evaluation in comparison with 2017.
The politician also offered a reminder about the “reform” in the form of the order to enrol first graders in schools only at their place of residence. This has resulted in schools in new residential districts being overpopulated, where new buildings actively became populated.
According to him, since the beginning of work of the Verkhovna Rada [the new autumn session has started – ed] the faction [Opposition Bloc – ed] will demand the dismissal of the Minister of Education Liliya Grinevich for dismantling the education system.
Among Grinevich’s new initiatives is the transferal of teachers of a retirement age to a contract form of work and the approval of new spelling rules that reject 100-year-old Ukrainian grammar.
