Granting Tomos to Ukraine is a business project for the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and a political project for the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. This was stated by the Ukrainian political scientist and leader of the “Third Sector” analytical center Andrey Zolotarev in comment to “Golosua”.
“It is a political-business project. For Bartholomew – it is a big temptation to sharply increase the economic power of the Constantinople Patriarchate, which, in fact, has a small and insignificant number of parishes. And in Ukraine the President promises Stauropegic monasteries, and so on – so in general it is good business”
said the political scientist
According to him, for Poroshenko it is a political project.
“For society there is nothing good here. This is a violation of the 35th article of the Constitution: active participation of the President and the highest officials of the State in solving church issues (in Ukraine the church is separated from the state), and here an attempt is being made to create a state church. It is not a secret any more that in this company there are authoritative businessmen from Dnepropetrovsk, and, seemingly, the Tomos project was implemented using the money of these “pals” too. That’s why there is nothing holy here, by and large. Judging by the fact that the main local churches did not recognise the OCU, it resembles a more secular project”
