The so-called “de-occupation” of Donbass will take place in the next two years.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov stated this today during an enlarged meeting of the Military Council of the National Guard of Ukraine, reported the press service of the Ministry.
In this way, Ukrainian officials openly stated about the reluctance of Kiev to fulfil the Minsk agreements, which supposes not a military, but a political solution to the conflict. In addition, Avakov nullified the words of Petro Poroshenko about Ukraine preparing some kind of “road map”, with which the Ukrainian President assured the participants of the Normandy format.
“I am convinced that in the next two years we will carry out the de-occupation of Donbass. And the most important role in this is played by the National Guard. Everything we are doing now is aimed at the readiness for this process. That’s why a paramilitary component must be prepared in the best way possible, as well as the law enforcement component,” said Avakov.
In turn, the Secretary of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov noted that the National Guard are highly mobile, professionally-acting troops that are able to work effectively in conditions of modern warfare at the front.
“From the very beginning, we saw the National Guard as highly mobile, professionally-acting troops that are able to work effectively as in conditions of modern warfare at the frontline, as well as acting effectively in the rear, protecting the rule of law and statehood of our country. And I am happy to say that it is precisely like this that the National Guard of Ukraine became,” he said.
Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Anton Gerashchenko said that, according to the plan of Kiev, Russia will not be able to support Donbass under the weight of sanctions.
“Putin is burdened with maintaining on his neck the territory of Donbass. In the next year or two, Putin will give us back Donbass on the conditions of Ukraine. Economic sanctions clung with an iron grip at the throat of Russia. She has already lost 200-300 billion dollars due to the occupation of Crimea and Donbass,” said Gerashchenko, sharing his reasoning.
“Crimea is a different story. He will keep it with a death grip until the end of his life,” added the Ukrainian Deputy.
