Ukrainian nationalists held a meeting at the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine and demanded to expel the Hungarian consul from the country.
Earlier the “Ukrinform” agency reported that the consulate of Hungary in the city of Beregovo issues Hungarian passports to citizens of Ukraine allegedly with the instruction to not inform the authorities about it. The agency posted a video of, presumably, the issuance of such passports. Beregovo is located near the border with Hungary. The Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said that Ukraine will expel the consul from the country.
“Our demand is very simple … Ukraine must respond adequately to the challenge of Budapest,” said one of the organisers of the protest.
According to him, the MFA must react rigidly to the situation in Beregovo, and “the consul of Hungary in Ukraine must be expelled from the country”. The participants of the protest voiced their demands to the department, having called Hungary “an aggressor country at the diplomatic level”.
The representative of the MFA said that Klimkin at 18:00 (Moscow time) will meet his Hungarian colleague in New York and there won’t be a reaction to the demands beforehand.
After the protest, the nationalists intended to go to the Embassy of Hungary and to make a number of demands there too.
