On December 15th, while in the capital the Unifying sobor takes place, the Vinnytsia Svyato-Preobrazhensky Cathedral Katholikon of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) was occupied immediately after the morning church service. This was reported by the Union of Orthodox Journalists.
It is reported that about 20 young athletically-built people drove up to cathedral in the morning and took the keys to all rooms of the complex away from security. “Take away your things and leave,” they said to representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).
It should be noted that the managing director of the Vinnytsia diocese of the Metropolitan of Vinnytsia and Bar Simeon was the only bishop who did not sign the resolution of Hierarchal Sobor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kiev Patriarchate). Later he reported that he can become the head of the United Orthodox Church like any other bishop who will take part in the unifying Sobor. Accompanied by the Dean from the Vinnytsia regional deanery Archimandrite Dorofey (Markevich) and also Metropolitan Aleksandr (Drabinko) of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky and Vishnevsky arrived at the St. Sophia Cathedral for participation in the Unifying Sobor.
It should be noted that according to the source of “Strana”, the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Constantinople Patriarch Bartholomew are lobbying Simeon as the possible head of the united church.
