The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine introduced an advanced course of studying the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in high schools. This was reported on the website of the department.

For this purpose the Ministry of Education and Science has signed a memorandum with the National Museum “Memorial of the Victims of Holodomor”.

“Studying, promoting, and introducing into the educational process of schools broad learning about the history of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 – the genocide of the Ukrainian nation – is exactly the purpose of cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Museum ‘Memorial of the Victims of the Holodomor’,” it is said in the statement.

The director of the museum Olesya Stasyuk explained that now teachers try not to traumatise children when studying this period of Ukrainian history.

“Our museum also seems to be a scary place, although most haven’t visited it even once it wasn’t. We have to establish trust and partnership in order to begin to speak honestly and openly about such difficult things,” stressed Stasyuk.

Earlier the political analyst Pavel Karnazytsky emphasized that more people died during the years of Ukraine’s independence than as a result of the “Holodomor”.

“After conducting a population census there will be a need to explain what genocide and what Holodomor is taking place during Ukraine’s independence. Fewer people died from Holodomor,” stressed Karnazytsky.

As “Glavnovosti” reported,, in 2018-2019 772 million hryvnia will be spent on reorganising and reconstructing the Memorial of the victims of Holodomor.
