US Vice President Joseph Biden declared that the Ukrainian authorities have agreed on the special status of Donbass.

The corresponding video with the politician’s speech at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York was published by the Ukrainian service of Voice of America.

Biden noted the complexity of such a decision solution for Kiev, saying that it is similar to Washington agreeing on the special status of Texas and, as a consequence, the growing influence of Mexico in the region.

“It’s like saying, “Texas will have special status because we would like Mexico to have more influence in Texas and we’re going to put it through Congress. This is a very difficult step that they (Kiev) have agreed to undertake. I’m convinced that they’ll do it,” said the politician.

During the speech, Biden also warned Ukraine about the EU’s desire to lift sanctions against Russia.
