The calming of combat in Donbass is connected not only to the warning that the Russian President Vladimir Putin made during “direct line” on the eve of the FIFA World Cup concerning a loss of statehood for Ukraine. Certain signals were also given to the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko by Europe too.
This was stated on the air of the “Vesti FM” radio station on August 1st by the political scientist Vladimir Kornilov.

“As I understand, representatives from Germany and France warned him during the last NATO meeting about a serious aggravation at the frontline. Judging by the fact that immediately after this everything calmed down in the Gorlovka direction, it was probably made clear to him that it’s better to not develop his electoral campaign to such a level. I very much hope that he will continue to listen to this advice,” said Kornilov.

He connects the stop of the offensive that was being prepared to the wave of departures from the UAF.

“This has caused many hotheads among officers to be discontent. It’s possible that it is this that the wave of departures that the Minister of Defence Poltorak spoke about is connected to,” stated the expert.

He believes that Poroshenko can return to the idea of staging an aggravation in Donbass.

“Since the failure of the Tomos idea, a sharp activisation of the SBU, which carries out mass cleansing in Donbass, can be seen. This demonstrates that Kiev didn’t abandon the idea of a serious armed provocation,” said Kornilov.
