Resident Viktor Degay from the settlement of Zaitsevo in the north of Gorlovka in the proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) was killed as a result of shelling by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported on October 8th by the acting head of the municipal administration of Gorlovka Ivan Prikhodko.
“Today the Ukrainian Armed Forces shelled the settlement of Zaitsevo. As a result of the shelling a 47-year-old man from Karbyshev Street died. He is survived by three young children, who he raised alone,” quotes the Donetsk News Agency from his words. Prikhodko added that as a result of the shelling damage was sustained by five houses.
An unknown resident of Gorlovka donated a sum of money, large by the standards of the war-torn Donbass – 20,000 rubles – as aid for the now-orphaned three children of Viktor Degay.
“The residents of Gorlovka never cease to amaze me. I’m just sat in my office, I just got back from shelling. Someone comes to me and hands over money. 20,000 rubles. With the words: ‘help for the children of the deceased’. Tomorrow we will do it. In response to my words: ‘It is possible to have at least your surname — from whom?’. The response: ‘It’s not necessary’. You see how people are!” wrote Prikhodko on his blog.
Earlier the operative command of the DPR reported that over the past few days the Ukrainian units violated the truce 31 times. Areas of 15 settlements were subjected to UAF shelling.
